homo videns

2020 · 8' · Spanish · video-essay

Co-directed with: Pedro Adrián Zuluaga

In Luis Ospina's work, there is an undercurrent that sustains it and gives it its particular coherence, lucidity and rigour: self-awareness of his means of expression. As a child, Ospina's father gave the future director a camera: "now it's your turn [to film]". This child who "simply observed" reality, as Ospina says of himself, will not only populate his films with devices for recording and capturing sound and image, and screens of all kinds. He uses that technology to make a commentary - sceptical, ironic - on a society that he, from very early on, sensed was a remote-controlled society, of fears heightened by the media: a state of affairs that only a critical apparatus, such as the one he attempted and shaped, could deactivate.
